Who we are

Ownpace is a service based in New Brunswick, Canada. We handle your personal information under Canada's privacy law (PIPEDA). In plain words: we collect only what we need to run Ownpace, we tell you who else handles it, and we do not sell it.

What we collect

Your email address and name, or the details Google shares if you sign in with Google. The contacts you add: their name, phone number or email, and any photo you attach. The messages you send and receive in Ownpace. Your subscription status. Anything you type, say, or photograph in Ownpace Chat or with the voice button. If you pay by card, our payment provider Stripe handles your card details and we never see your full card number. If you pay by e-Transfer, we see the name and email on the transfer.

What stays on your device

Your reminders, checklist, medication name and time, settings, and check-in choices are saved on your own device, not on our servers. Ownpace saves small pieces of information in your browser (local storage) so it remembers you and your settings. Ownpace does not add advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting platform may collect basic technical information, like page visits and device type, to run and secure the service.

Companies that help us run Ownpace

We use trusted service providers: Base44 for hosting, sign-in, and storage; Stripe for card payments; Twilio for text messages to your contacts, once texting is available; and artificial intelligence services that read what you type, say, or photograph in Chat and the voice button, and that create the read-aloud audio. Some of these are in the United States or other countries, so your information may be stored or processed outside Canada, where local laws and authorities may be able to access it. We share only what each feature needs. Voice input also uses your device's or browser's speech recognition, which may send your speech to the company that makes it (for example Google in Chrome). We do not sell your personal information. Please do not share bank card numbers, passwords, or health details in Chat.

Photos you attach in Chat

When you attach a photo, it is uploaded to our storage and sent to an AI service so it can look at it. Crop out personal details when you can. To have an uploaded photo removed, contact us.

Location

The Emergency help button asks your device for your location and shows it on your screen so you can tell the 911 operator. This only happens when you tap that button, never in the background. Ownpace does not send your location to 911, to us, or to anyone else. Location check-in is not available yet, so no location is shared with your contacts.

Wellness check-ins

If you turn this on, Ownpace notes on your device when you last opened the app so it can gently ask how you are doing after a while. Letting a contact know is not available yet. If we add it, we will only tell that person that some time has passed, never anything about what you did in the app. This can only be checked when you open the app.

Adding contacts

You can add someone by email address. We send them an invitation and they must accept before anyone is connected. Either of you can remove the connection at any time. Adding people by phone number, with real text messages, is coming later. When it launches, we will text that person from an Ownpace number to say you added them, include your name, and tell them they can reply STOP to stop the texts. Please only add people who know you, and only add a photo of someone if they are okay with it.

Community board

Posts on the community board can be seen by other Ownpace members. Please do not share personal details there. Posts from members are not checked before they appear. You can report a post, and reported posts are hidden while we review them. You can delete your own posts at any time.

Facility plans

If a care home or organization adds you to its plan, its administrator can see your email address and whether you have joined. They cannot see your messages, chats, or reminders.

Voice

Voice is only active when you tap the button. We are not always listening.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete the personal information stored with your account and cancel any active subscription. We may keep some records if the law requires it, such as payment records for tax purposes, and backup copies may take a short time to clear.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent. You can delete your account any time in Settings, under Delete my account. You can turn off reminders, check-ins, and voice at any time. If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

Keeping your information safe

We use reasonable safeguards, but no system is completely secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.

Who Ownpace is for

Ownpace is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy. We will tell you in the app before major changes take effect.
